Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, and greetings from Caracas, Venezuela, (sorry for my english!!)(I will do my best) i just bought an impresa ts 2001 face 2 bugs eye 4x2 front wheel drive automatic with an ej16 (95hp) sohc naturally aspirated and I want to know if I can do a swap to a year 2002 ej20 engine also sohc naturally without problems!!, i did search a lot on the web and fin out that for example you can keep your ej16 computer and instal the 7/8 block of the ej20, put the intake manifold of the e16 and change the gear cam of the e16 to e20 and ready to turn on the engine!!, my question is... is that true?? or I missing something? worth it the swap?? im going to feel an horsepower increase of aprox 20hp?? I also heard that are many types of ej20 out there, mine has the coil on the right side on the top of the engine? thats mean something?? I heard that kind of engine has 220hp, is that correct??

If you're going to all that trouble I'd buy a used 2.5i SOHC, install fresh gaskets, and swap it in. It'll have MUCH more torque than the wimpy 2 liter, and not cost any more. You'll then have a North American spec Impreza 2.5RS that'll be fun...especially on 16 or 17" wheels and good tires.
