Clicking noise from parking brake/transmission while in park and tapping brake pedal

Asked by Apr 05, 2011 at 12:38 PM about the 2000 Ford Contour 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2000 Contour, 4 cyl.

Background:
Check engine light recently came on, car drives normal however there is some occasional lag when accelerating and slow shifting.  Also brakes are hard as a rock after first using them when shifting out of park. (i.e. when applying the brakes it's like stepping on a rock, then brakes work normal).

This morning I noticed that when the car is running and in Park, if I tap the brakes there is a clicking noise from the hand brake/transmission area between the front seats on the floor.

Car brakes normally once in motion, only when coming out of Park does it act odd.

Any thoughts?
Walter M.

sounds like the break booster is going bad,try replaceing the valve on the outside of it,a rubber hose hooks to it,just pull out get new one.
