My car dies randomly when driving and it takes multiple tries to get it started again. I was told it was the purge solenoid but then told me they didn't think that was it. Any suggestions?

Did you check the car for stored trouble codes? Even if the engine light is not on, check for them. A lot of car now can run really badly due to faulty emissions and purge systems because they are basically a sealed & pressurized system. They can make the car run like crap and never set of a trouble code or engine light.
