Rack & pinion leak

My Ford Taurus Ses 2001 was just
diagnosed as a rack and pinion leak by a
reputable mechanic who was changing my
tires. I thought it was the power steering
pump. He said the leak was coming from
the rack and pinion but the pump could also
be out but what do you think? Was leaking
out as fast as they put it in fluid) and is it
really expensive to fix?

You should trust the mechanic or take it to another guy for a second opinion and price.

Depending on the brand name of the rack and pinion, they run anywhere from $110 to $250. Then plus the labor and incidentals. If your mechanic says it is leaking from there, then it is..

Thank you guys so much. The only thing is the guy was just changing my tires for me at this auto place and he did me a favor by looking at it and that's when I was told it was that rack and pinion thing. I was just there getting the tires put on and I asked him to look at it and he did that as a favor and said that is definitely where it's leaking at. But I didn't do anything further and told him I always thought it was the pump and he said it's a possibility but we didn't go any further cuz I didn't have the money and he was just putting on tires. Thank you for your opinions

Any want to buy this thing for parts? It still runs I mean and everything it gets me from point A to point B.

I was told I could probably sell this thing if nothing else for parts. After everything else I've looked at on Craigslist and everything they don't even run and they're crashed and everything and people are asking 500 bucks for it. If anyone's interested let me know and buying this cuz I would like to find something else anyway

The Taurus is not worth much- you should be able to have a new rack and pinion put in for $500- since you don't want it, just put it on Craigslist and start over- good luck-
