How do I determine if my catalytic converter is in the rear, front, or middle of the car? I have a 2001 ford taurus
Just look underneath the car. It will be obvious. A plugged up converter would cause your problem.
your converters are part of the Y pipe on this car, they hook to the engine.
You didn't state what engine you had, so I'm going with the most common, it should have 2 precats on the y pipe that come off the engine then it will have a main cat on the first connector pipe. An exhaust system pressure test should be performed to find if it is the front cats or the main cat. If that is indeed your problem, it could also be a fuel supply problem.
