If you left the a battery cable off last night and the battery was dead this AM then you have a bad battery, if a cable is disconnected then there is no way the alternator can draw power. Now of you have a draw through the alternator when the key is off, you have a bad diode inside the alternator, most bench testers won't test for a bad diode, they only check output one way, you can either choose to rebuild yours or replace it.
