2004 Honda Element front end noise!

Asked by HondaElementDweller Apr 07, 2018 at 10:43 AM about the 2004 Honda Element EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Honda Element with 136, 242 miles on it.  I maintain it
regularly.  I LOVE it.  I take out the seats in the summer and camp in it
making me feel safe and cozy.  However, there is this NOISE from the front
end that is SO loud especially in the morning, but always there.  It is only
when I'm driving.  A loud rubbing rattling sound as if the car is going to fall
apart making me feel unsafe.  I have taken it to Honda 3 times (can't hear
the noise - who knows why that is!), 3 private car repair places with high
recommendations - can't hear it, can't fix it.  I am retiring next Feb. 2019
and really really wanted this car to be my car for a very long time.  Now I am
considering buying a new car which I really don't want to do.  My right
engine mount was fixed - did not fix noise issue.  It's not an engine thing
they say.  WTF is it???!!!!  How hard is this to fix?  I have recorded it on my
cell phone but they need to find out where the noise is and nobody can.
What do I do?  I am at wit's end!

Since the noise is only present when driving, it could be a plastic retainer loose around the engine compartment or below; the friction of the air makes the noise. Look for loose parts or retainers in the inside fender covers, I heard a flapping noise in a car I rented only when going over 55, the front of the inside fender cover was loose and making the noise. They are what my uncle called "mystery sounds". Don't buy a new car....yet!
