Tire pressure sensors

Asked by Nov 16, 2016 at 09:49 PM about the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can I replace my summer only tires and
wheels with pressure sensors with winter
tires and wheels with no pressure sensors?
What will the computer read out?   Will it
go back to normal when I put the summer
tires back on?  Thank you!

Your TPMS sensors are mounted on the rims and as long as you keep the rims with the replacement tires in the same position (meaning not rotating them) it should not throw off the CPU. I recommend doing it in a place like Midas or other tire shop that has a programming tool for the sensors just in case the TPMS sensors lose communication when the tires are replaced. They usually don't charge extra for the programming as long as they perform the mounting and dismounting of the tires, Good luck, George

With no pressure sensors installed the TPMS light on the dash will flash then remain illuminated every time you start the vehicle to warn you there's a problem with the TPMS system. If you can live with that, you'll be ok. HTH. -Jim

you can swap rims and tires without sensors , but your light will remain on , unless you keep the tires with sensors in your trunk.
