Aftermarket hood switch on 2016 wrangler sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 2016 jeep wrangler sport has a plunger switch mounted to detect when the hood is open.  A single red wire runs from the battery to the switch and a white one through the firewall.  it is clearly added after manufacture.  Can't find ther wire in the vehicle.  what is it for?

Yeah, I’m hoping it was a retrofit to include the hood in the security alarm system along with the doors and rear gate. Jeep hoods don’t have a latch release from in the vehicle, just the classic rubber bands that hold the hood shut. I guess I could test it by opening the hood with the alarm set. There is no evidence of an aftermarket system, but the vehicle has the typical system for doors and ignition to activate horn and lights.

Well, that wasn't it. I locked the doors, waited for the slow blink security light and opened the hood and got no response. I guess the security system is for anti-theft not anti-vandalism. You have to open a door to steal the vehicle. The switch remains a mystery since there is also no light under the hood which would be a good candidate for a hood-open detector switch. I asked the dealer I bought it from Saturday if they know what it is. It did lead me to figuring out a way to use the same battery terminal to run power to my ham radio mounted at the center hard top bracket.
