Transmission issues

90 Chevy suburban  well driving will shift
in first and second but not pass that what
may be the problem and how can I fix it

Take a look at the vacuum modulator as well as the vacuum hose and possibly electrical connection on the side of the tranny, be sure they are still there and not comprimized.
