swap a 3L for a 4L

i have an 01 ranger with a 3L v6 w 184K miles and im starting to have issues
with the oil system, i was given a 4L v6 w/ 98K miles out of a 98 explorer. i'm
wanting to swap motors and trans will the wire harness and motor mounts
match up  or will this become an large project

If you live in a state that requires inspections then just forget it as it won't pass. if not then yes it will work but you will have to use the engine mounts and control system wiring harness from the explorer, some mounting mods and maybe some re-calibrating for the speedo/odometer and possibly some exhaust tubing work. that would be the good news, the bad news is the 4.0 is not the best motor, so you better at least have the heads and valves done and maybe pull a rod and main bearing cap to check the wear, if the crank isn't scored replace them also. this what I would call a medium high project cause there will always be something that comes along and bites you.
