2016 Outback 3.6R has 16,000 miles and transmission issues
I purchased my outback in January of 2016. Last we it started having
transmission issues, initially it felt like it was hard shifting and then suddenly
it felt like it was slipping when I hit about 50 mph. Additionally it felt like it
slipped gears when turning corners.
Subaru is unable to determine the issue and has decide to replace the
transmission. How do I ensure I'm getting a new transmission and not a re-
built or re manufactured? Has anyone else experienced this issue.
They are paying for it, so as long as it works properly, does it matter if it is new or reman'd? Most re-man'd transmissions are rebuilt with new internal parts, just an old casing and as good as a new one.
On something this new I doubt you'll be getting a remanufactured unit. Unless it also fits older models. Either way you get the warranty on the transmission which is a plus. The fact that they're replacing the entire unit is fantastic!! GM, for example, won't. They just keep fixing the original unit until the warranty expires. Been down that road with GM twice. Consider yourself lucky. HTH. -Jim
Bbpez- I agree with both Tom and Jim above, who cares if it's new or refurbished. I seriously doubt it will happen again, but, you've got a track record of what was done. Great that they didn't do what Jim said GM did to him!
I don't think Subaru rebuilds the CVT's but I could be wrong. I would get an extended warranty as these pieces of junk cost a fortune to replace if you have to pay for it yourself.
Thanks, I've been reading about the Torque for a v6 (especially with fast acceleration) placing too much Torque on a CVT. I believe it was the 2016 3.6 model that Subaru changed transmissions I expect my issue will become an issue for others. I loved my outback but I will most likely trade it off in the next 10,000 miles. That is if I ever get it back : )
Bbpez- I would recommend that you not "floor it" from a dead stop or try and back up fast especially on an incline.. However, the CVT transmission on the H6 is supposed to withstand the higher torque capacity of the more powerful engine. Still, it's easier for the car to accelerate once you get rolling around 10 MPH and less stress on the transmission as well. Good luck.
