why is my back up screen black?

Asked by Oct 02, 2016 at 12:26 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 07 avalanche and am having problems with the back up camera.
Took it into the dealer and they said The part I need is $800! Of course they
wouldn't tell which part. I have looked on the GM parts direct and can't tell
from the parts offered. The sensors work just fine but the picture is all black.
Is it the camera in the tailgate? Or any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Iv'e been to that site and it says it closed down in 2013. But all i can find is open the tail gate cover panel and thats where the camera is. I don't want to buy a new camera if that is not the problem.

I don't blame you. I read that link, and it's either the wiring, the module or the camera. I can't tell you what the problem is without doing some diagnostic work. Talk again to the mechanic at the dealership that inspected your car to give up the info. If not, I'd have another shop check it out.

I went ahead and took the cover off the tailgate and found the wire going to the camera was broke off at the camera. I ordered a camera today. Thanks for the help.
