Truck stalls after idling

Asked by May 03, 2015 at 08:21 PM about the 1992 GMC Jimmy 2 Dr SLE 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Gday, My 92 fmc s15 jimmy starts after a
little coaxing, then runs at idle for about
5 to 10 mins, after its warms enough for
the idle to drop to the normal 750-800
rpm, but then it just quits. No stuttering
or anything, just stops. Ive replaced all
the vacuum lines i can think of, the pcv
valve, the vapor canister/filter, the
vaccuum reservoir, the fuel pump relay
and still cant figure it out. Could you give
me some other ideas what could be
wrong?  Thanks. Tim H

Does the engine have a carburetor... or fuel injection? If fuel injection, you might want to look at the IAC valve (Idle Air Control valve). If you have a carburetor, then I believe there is something called a "choke pull-off", but I know nothing about those. These are guesses as I'm just a shade tree mechanic. 85% sure it will be the IAC.
