Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a ford expedition. Lately for some
reason when I mash the gas it won't hardly
go. It makes a popping noise then slowly
starts to go. Sometimes in the middle of
my driving it's like it giving up again and
begins to slow down. I also smell some
type of fumes while driving, and I go
through a lot of water..... What could this
be??

If you go through a lot of water, I suspect you have a coolant leak, Is the engine getting hot and then you experience the popping noise? That's from the oil getting too hot. Fix the leak, might be a hose, water pump, radiator, or head gasket. How is the oil?
