How do I know which type of transmission my 1995 GMC Jimmy has in it

Asked by Feb 25, 2017 at 02:55 PM about the 1995 GMC Jimmy 4 Dr SLT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I've got a 95 jimmy Slt 4x4 that I bought used, the previous owner told me
it didnt have the original transmission in it and that the new one is better than
the original.  (how do I figure out what the current transmission is)

I ask because I recently had to replace a  shifting solenoid and the one I took
out is a good bit shorter than the one that comes with the stock transmission
(as thats what the parts house gave me) and now it  doesn't shift into higher
gears as i accelerate

I'd stop into a local trans shop and have them look at it, I'm sure they will know right away which one is installed. Hard for us to know what assembly is in your truck by your question.

Well, it should have a 4l60e but 95 was a one off as far as transmissions are concerned. In other words only another 95 model 4l60e will work correctly. Newer ones will bolt in but burn up rather quick.
