Transmission vent tube/leak

Asked by Lenard Grant Jul 01, 2016 at 06:02 PM about the 1996 GMC Jimmy 4 Dr SLS 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 96 gmc jimmy, there was fluid spraying out
the vent tube every now and then , to temporarily
fix it I looped the vent tube back into the dip tube
and haven't had any leaks since. My question is
what impact will this have on my transmission?
Some people say that when that occurs it's
because of a bad seal between the transmission
and the transfer case, others also say when that
happens you transmission is on its last legs. Is
that true?
