Wheel bearing problem?

Asked by Apr 26, 2016 at 06:09 PM about the 2001 Ford Escape XLS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Wife has an 01 Escape 4x4. Recently when I drove it around
it feels like something is holding it back, this also came
with a noise. It sounds like it's just working really hard to
get moving. Now it doesn't pull to one side when the brake
is applied and it also doesn't get loud when it turns which I
know is a sign of bad bearings. Her truck has been a real
pain the last year or so. But this particular problem has me
stumped. Ow she also just bought brand new tires and the
problem still persists. Any ideas would be much
appreciated... I'm trying to avoid going to my father in law
because he brushes it off when I brought it up awhile back.

Could be a wheel bearing, driveline or engine related. Something doesn't sound right. If you FIL doesn't want to look at it, have your local mechanic.
