Hi I am getting a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark when i start my car
and it says mpg next to it

When the triangle comes on, the car makes a notification noise and shows the symbol of what is actually wrong. Then, after a few seconds, it goes to this triangle. Plenty of time to look down and see what the car wants. The owners manual covers all these things.
