I bought a new Escape and it has Continental Tires.
My new 2015 Escape has Continental Tires. Since when does Ford use those tires. I'm
told they are a very very cheap tire and maybe my dealership switched them? Does
anybody have an Escape with those kind of tires?
Ford has been using Continental tires for years. They came on my 2005 Mazda Tribute which is the same as an Escape. Back then they were the Contitracs and were horrible, loud and dry rotted after and 45K miles I replaced them with Firestones. The newer continentals are actually pretty good. So it depends on what model of continentals you have. I have the DWS extreme contacts on my BMW and love them, best all season tire for that car.
Some manufacturers will strike a deal with a tire dealer and put on an adequate tire to last through the warranty. You have to spend extra if you want the good stuff as you found out. Everyones driving style is different, o some like All-Seasons, some summer tires, and even winter/snow tires.
Don't know who gave the information af being "Cheap" tires but they probably have not driven a european car. Continentals are used on many high performance cars! They have been in business for decades. When I raced open wheel in the 50-60's, I ran Continentals. They were good for 150mph +. No my friend, they definately not cheap
