Stop Start Malfunction

30

Asked by Brett Jan 15, 2019 at 04:22 PM about the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Problem: The stop start is “not ready”
because the dashboard display says the
driver door is open even though the door is
closed. The “door open” is only displayed in
the stop start menu. Meaning the routine
door ajar sensor detects the door as being
closed and has not malfunctioned.

Possible Influences: The Cherokee sat for 9
months while I was deployed overseas.
When I returned the battery was completely
dead. After replacing the battery everything
else is functioning properly.

My 2016 has the same issue after the body shop disconnected the battery while doing work. They are sending it to the dealer for diagnostic

Mine ended up just being a code. $110 diagnostic fee and a cleared code and it’s fine

We purchased a used 2018 Jeep Cherokee Latitude (less than 13,000 miles) from a dealership in Colorado Springs on 10/17. On the way home, about 100 miles, the Stop /Start warning light and Battery light went on about 8 miles from home going approx. 50 MPH. We decided to get it home. At the bottom of the driveway, we placed the car in reverse and noticed that power steering was not working. We turned off the vehicle and at restart, the warning lights were reset. We notified the dealership immediately and they recommended changing out battery. We drove about 15 miles to an auto parts store and bought the best battery they had for that vehicle. We did not use the jeep for the next day (Friday). Saturday 10/19 we drove it down to Denver (about 60 miles) with no problem. On the way home, again the Stop /Start warning light and Battery light went on going approx. 60 MPH. We drove to a parking lot and made a turn into a parking spot. At that point power steering was operable. I placed the car in park and then in reverse and then noticed no power steering, I placed the car in drive and again no power steering. We stopped and restarted the vehicle and the warning lights were reset. About 2 minutes later while driving, I noticed that the driver’s side seat warmer and rear defrost had both been switched on automatically.

I had same issue after replacing battery. Dealer diagnostic said the problem is the door latch not sending the correct signal. Solution....a new door switch for $480 plus installation. I never liked the start stop function and it's certainly not worth that much to have it. Don't see how changing the battery would cause the door latch to malfunction.....too many electronics in cars these days.

My 2015 Grand Cherokee engine light is on and I noticed when I use the automatic start, it will cut on and then immediately shut off. Would this be a reason for the engine light to come on?

2016 Cherokee Latitude start/stop accessory idiot light came on recently and now I'm having intermittent issues starting it, then service engine light pops on then goes away, then wont start again. Battery while old has a full charge the vehicle has less than 30k miles on it.. Wondering if the issue is the start stop feature which I always turned off anyway? Ideas

I've seen a couple posts with similar issue I am having regarding start/stop. I will check battery. Several have stated "battery good" or "battery has full charge". Gotta remember that volts and amps are 2 different things. While a battery can still show 12.5, 13 volts, the amps could be too low. Best to have it checked at a reputable garage with proper volt/amp meter.

Currently start/stop light has come on as unavailable please service. I was able to pull into a gas station and turn the car off when turning back on before taking it out of park I clicked the OFF button for this feature (which usually always says "Not Ready" anyway) so it doesn't get used much. After I clicked the OFF button for the start/stop I was able to drive home without an issue. Maybe this is battery related.
