Before ever replacing the fuel pump, you want to make sure there is a new fuel filter installed, then check the fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on top of the intake. Fuel pressure should 56 to 63 lbs. if this is a V8 engine. The catalytic converter could cause this, have it checked out. Could be starting to get plugged up. When warmed up the cat. would glow orange if plugged up.
