99 GMC JIMMY

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I had the GMC WITH STARTING ISSUES. I
believe it was my head gasket that went. The
reason it wouldnt start at times i believe it was
sucking coolent into the cylinder making it hard to
start.

That is called hydrostatic lockup, so pull the spark plugs and spin the engine over with the starter and see how many blow coolant out, then pull the heads and have them checked, if not cracked then resurfaced clean the blocks mating surface completely clean and install new headgaskets and follow the torque sequence and settings and use new head bolts. Big job, if you don't feel you can handle it then let the pros do it.

Also, you would have noticed white smoke coming out the exhaust and a sweet smell of anti-freeze along with continuous low coolant level. If these symptoms are not the case, you may want to check the fuel pressure, it should be 56 to 63 lbs.
