salvage cars bad?

Question type: General

I see a salvage title vehicle I like. The seller said the driver's front quarter panel
and front bumper were replaced. No frame damage. I will fly to the location and
find a body shop to inspect the vehicle. Does that sound a reasonable plan, or
am I making a big mistake? I would save about $12,000 dollars buying a
salvage title, low mileage vehicle. I live in Texas...

The vehicle has to be inspected after the repair by the state and get a rebuilt title before you can get a tag or insurance on the vehicle.

I guess a trip to the body shop is in order before I buy it. That's the best due diligence effort I could make. I see your point. Do you think they might be able to check the integrity of the suspension adequately somehow? if so, what should I ask for?

By the way, it has a "Restore/Salvage" Title and has passed inspection since the repair. I am not sure how helpful that is or how thoroughly they inspect a vehicle to pass.
