Fuel Sensor Fail

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Ram 1500. A month and a half ago traveling with a full tank and
all of a sudden fuel sensor fail light alert comes along with the check engine
light. Brought it in to have it checked and they told me it had to be replaced.
$745!!! So I made the appointment, because with the check engine light on
my remote start won't work. Winter is about to start here in the UP and I need
that feature. Crazy thing is....for the last 5 days the light went out and the
gauge seems to be working. Anyone ever have the sensor "fix itself". I'd
rather not bring it in today and pay the $745 when this should be a recall
issue anyways. Let me know if anyone has had it "correct itself".  Would you
still bring it in?

Your right it should have been a recall fix, along with a dozen or more known fails with this truck. At $800.00 price, I would figure out how to lower the gas tank and do it myself. Replace the whole fuel pump assembly, along with the two tank straps that are known to fail which can result in the gas tank falling down while your driving down the road. DIY and you know it is done right along with saving 90% of the cost.

i have a 2014 dodge ram laramie 4o thousand miles fueled up yesterday would not register fuel amount on the gage. i was told it was fuel sensor. plus i was told fuel tank straps also fail. great come on dodge boys get your shit together. ford 150 is looking a lot better. this should be on a recall list.

I wish I would have read this earlier because that's about what mine cost. They also said a tab was broken off of the fuel pump when they were taking it out and they had to get a new one which they said they would eat the cost, still the price almost made me choke! Alsomy headlight switch went on me and my lights would not shut off, more added to the price. Luckily I had gotten a discount certificate in the mail the month before, that helped reduced the cost some. I love the ride that the hemi gives me and the power but for the vehicle being six years old you would think this stuff would not go so quickly. I had three f-150s and they are looking good lately.

My 2014 Ram has 25K and the fuel sensor failed light came on. It only comes on at certain fuel levels. If I fill the tank it goes off and so does the engine light. This seems to be a common problem among the 1500 series vehicles. If you pay to fix the problem it will reaccure again since they are replacing it with the same sensor.

My 2016 Big Horn 1500 didn't start doing that until it hit about 75000. When it started, when I filled up with gas, it would go away and my service light would eventually turn itself off. Now , at 88,000 I fill up and the sensor warning goes away but the check engine stays on all the time now, and the sensor light comes on after driving about 70 miles on full tank. I really wish i had known this was an issue, one of the main reasons I am looking at an F- 150 now. When Ford has a fuel sensor issue, they did a recall- Shame on you Ram.

I had the same problem (2016 RAM 1500), but as soon as I added Stabil fuel additive to the tank, the check engine light went out, the fuel sensor fail message went away, and neither has come back in two weeks!
