coolant oil leak mixed chalky yellow brown some time after tranmission repair...

Asked by Jan 18, 2017 at 02:29 PM about the 2002 Ford Escort 2 Dr ZX2 Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recent spotting following long term disuse (6 mo) and subsequent transmission repair completion.  Yellowish chalky brown / tan fluid, dripping form around oil pan / engine area, and lots of fluid.  Both oil and coolant need constant refilling.  Car runs fairly well, none the less.  No major temp issues indicated by sensors in car.  Check engine light on.

Oil and coolant mixing to form a chocolate milkshake and leaking and while running the car you get white smoke out of the exhaust, that is a head gasket failure. Now that the trans is fixed, time to rebuild the engine. Since the CEL is on, you can scan for the codes too.
