I have a 2005 GMC Envoy with the Denali package and the 5.3 liter V8, the engine sometimes makes an occasional clunk sound during idle. The RPM's don't move and no other side effects, any idea or history of he 5.3 V8 making this noise and does it mean anything?
This usually occurs when its idling in park, once in a while you hear it a low speeds but again doesn't affect performance or anything else. I know its a 9 year old engine and has 84K on it, otherwise its flawless, power is awesome on it.
The 5.3 liter Vortec is a very good engine. You have very low miles for the year. I've seen them at 300,000 miles so as long as you maintain it you should have a lot of life left in it. As far as the clunk, where is it coming from? If it's under the hood do you notice it when the A/C is on? Or does it do it all the time?
Does it make that same in neutral? or does it make it at low RPM's shifting between rev. and drive?? NO,it's not your universal joint, but it could be your alternator bearings are going bad, will not effect performance, but very annoying....hope this helps
