Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm having the same problem with my
car,  I have to hold break and rev it to
get it in drive.  Once driving there are
no problems at all.  Goes into reverse
fine to. Right before all this started it
would slip outta gear if I turned onto
another rd from a stop. Found out If I
turn overdrive off it doesn't happen
anymore.  Was good for two days and
then this happened and now I have to
get car to operating temp to even have
a chance of getting it in drive.  Seems
to have a better chance working if I go
to reverse and let it kick in and back to
drive and hit the gas (trying not to get
rpms too high)  and eventually it will
drop in gesr. This has to be bad for my
tranny.  Help plz  07 crown vic just paid
it off.  Besides that I'm late everywhere
lol

Tom is right. With rare exceptions Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptors are run very hard most of the time. I like to say that they are not used, but abused due to the demands of the job. Excellent vehicles, but everything has its limits. When they are sold, the show high mileage and, even if it is on the low side, the manner in which the cars are driven makes all the difference. I agree, from personal experience, the symptoms are of a shot or almost shot transmission. But you should take it to a mechanic for confirmation, like he says. I know all of the above because I am a retired Sheriff Deputy.

I got the car with less than 100k miles on it, and it was a detectives car, but last night the problem got worse and started slipping out while driving slow. Anyway was really hoping it was front pump maybe. I replaced fluid and filter and solenoid and pan gasket and that didn't fix it. (Forgot to mention that) none of this started till I did plugs and coil packs. The old. Ones were. Gapped way off and I spent 299.99 on coil packs alone with performance plugs. Anyway I paid 10 grand for this car and just paid it off if had 93,000 miles. Now has 132,000 and I need a new trans or rebuilt trans. Thanks for the info guys. This is why I don't buy fords. Shoulda known better

No, I am sorry to disagree. Like I said before, from personal experience I can say that Fords Crown Victoria Police Interceptors are the best. I also drove other makes (no specifics to avoid controversy) and they did not measure up to the demands of the job. Again, the problem is that even if the car has low miles, they are driven to the extreme, detectives are no different than road officers. And this applies to 90% of police units, regardless of make.
