can you use conventional oil instead of synthetic?
i just had my first oil change done after the 2 yrs of free oil changes at the
dealer. I went to a place I am familiar with and was shocked to find my oil
change was $70! I generally always pay no more than $30 without a coupon.
That was with my toyota solara tho. What am I missing?
Once you have started with synthetics you cannot go back without risking all kinds of oil leaks. What kind of service did you get at your service center? I know they start at 20 bucks and go up from there. What was the dealer going to charge you after the freebies were over? A lot of dealerships are just a low or really close to what a service center is for the same services. They are hoping to find something wrong and want to have it fixed while your there, just like the service center but not as detailed as the dealer would be. The 30 bucks you would have been paying is for conventional oils.
Yes, you can switch back and forth from synthetic to conventional and back again. The only possible exception would be a vehicle with MANY miles on it, like 100,000+. The best place to have your vehicle serviced is at the dealership. They know their vehicles inside out, just do not let them up-sell you on things you don't need.
Some cars recommend synthetic. If that is the case then you need synthetic. Otherwise get whichever you please
