Transmission Problems

Asked by Aug 12, 2013 at 10:08 AM about the 2003 Ford Thunderbird Premium Convertible

Question type: General

Has anyone had a problem with a shift problem on a 2003 T-bird 5 Speed automatic? feels like an engine miss when trans. downshifts from 5th to 4th.

Did you put a code reader on it yet ? Since these items are timing & shifting related (as stated by you), it could be a vacuum and/or electrical issue. When is the last time you did a service on the engine ? Does the engine run good at "idle" or when "under load" (at take off on to highway, passing or quick high rev in yard) ? Then reconfirm your transmission operation by taking the car to a quiet road and listen to the transmission change gears (stop, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th) up and down to verify proper transmission operation.
