Question type: General

4WD suppose to come on automatically when needed, is there a icon to let you know when it is engage?  Is this normally a front or rear wheel drive vehicle? I would like to know cause when going down hill and applying the brake, the transmission will down shift. This could be a problem on snowy roads in the winter if front wheel drive.

If your Escape is a AWD, then your right, it's FWD all of the time until wheel slippage is detected. There will be no 4WD light to tell you when the computer is engaging the rear wheels.

Thanks Tom, that is good information to know since this vehicle will auto-down shift when you are applying the brakes down hill. That could be a problem since I drive hilly back roads and our winters can get bad.
