I don't know much about cars and trucks and I want to learn more about them. My question is, "what are some engines that I can put in my 1988 dodge Dakota to give it more power, hp, torque, etc.?

Join a few Dokota forums, buy a chiltons or haynes manual for your model and year truck and research all you can. Putting another engine in your truck take a lot more knowledge and modifications from somehting like changing your oil. Start with the basics first.

See what optional V8's were available for that year. You can buy a "crate motor" from Mopar Performance. I would guess a 360" V8?
