my 85 k5 chevy blazer wont shift out of first gear what will cause that

If it's an automatic, check for a disconnected vacuum hose going to the vacuum modulator on the passenger's side of the transmission. The vacuum line should plug into the intake manifold on the engine at the other end. HTH. -Jim
