Door locks unlocking and locking themselves as I drive - 2003 Taurus

Asked by Mar 17, 2016 at 08:31 PM about the 2003 Ford Taurus SES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving down the road the door-open light on my dash came on, bells started
dinging and all 4 door locks started locking and unlocking in rapid succession.
I assume it is a relay.  Who can guide me?

That's usually caused by the fuse acting up or the wiring. Try the fuse first, I linked a picture below(Number 2 near bottom left). If it's the wiring, just test the cables with a multimeter from both ends of the wire while playing(Moving, shaking, checking out the entire cable) it to see if the cable is fine.

I'll try it. Thanks.

My bad, technically number 4, but the second fuse from the bottom left, hehe.

Thank you for your input. I saw another post that suggested changing out the key fob battery. I opened it up and saw the tiniest amount of corrosion starting. I changed the battery and it cured everything. Who would have guessed.

@Aries26, the fuse acting up?? How does a fuse "act up"? That is along the lines of turn signal fluid. Geez, if you dont know, dont answer.

a fuse can get corroded, it doesn't happen often in the newer cars, but is still a common problem in the older VWs and probably other makes as well. When the corrosion sets in it creates a drop in voltage getting through.
