my 1989 f150 4x4 rpm gage does not work ?how does it work and how is it set up.

It's just like the old ones reads pulses from the trigger side of the ignition coil and converts those into magnetic pulses inside the gauge itself, so you need to make sure the wiring is good from the gauge to the trigger wire at the coil.
