1988 ford f150 lariat 5.0 starter issue
I have a 88 ford f150 lariat 5.0 and on the
starter I can start the truck a couple of
time the it sounds like it grinds against
the flywheel. I can pull the starter and
put it back on with making any
adjustment to flywheel and it will start
again I need some help please I'm
Look at the corners of the teeth on the ring gear to make sure there not worn down. We use to take the flywheel off and turn the ring gear around. Of course that would be on a standard trany.

Ok, there is no adjustments you can do with a Ford starter. Inspect the starter drive and the ring gear for wear. Possible replacement of the flex plate. Also should have the starter looked at by an alternator & starter shop. May be worn.
Check the flywheel making sure there are no broken cogs. Remove the starter and make sure the gear is being fully extended during starting and the gear is not damaged.
After checking you starter bendix (gears) and the flywheel gears for wear and proper alignment, check the flywheel for cracks
