I see some strange things on RockAuto.com. It looks like there are some marked "To 8/31/87" - some are marked From 9/1/87. Sounds like a mid- year change in the engine. Check it: 1987 FORD F-150 5.0L 302cid V8 : Engine : Timing Chain

The thing is you can say either 1 or 2. The 289, the 302, 351 are all the same block, and even have the same bore. They are all 4" bore the difference in displacement is in the crankshaft and rods. The stroke. But there are two chains, but in the same place, a double roller chain. That's what I mean by you can call that 2 chains but they both run off the crank to the single cam all those engines have this is 351 and the older 302 had a round off set kinda cup instead of the part you see, that drives a mechanical fuel pump

302...the same deal but a complete off set circle to push the lever on the fuel pump. Before they went to electric fuel pumps, and that may be what that change was in '87
