Asked by MisterUncleBug Jun 21, 2022 at 06:35 AM about the 1986 Ford F-150 STD Standard Cab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a mechanical fuel pump but the gas guage doesn't work. Can I get a part
number or something.

It’s called a sender, a rig that old could have wiring or gauge issues. Try grounding the wire at the sender and turn on the key, if the gauge goes all the way passed the full mark then the gauge and wiring are good. So either a wrecking yard or a parts rebuilder is your options. The engineering number should be stamped in your old sender.

Check Rockauto.com for a part number. If the gauge always reads Empty it's a bad ground. If the gauge always reads Full or past Full it's a bad power connection. Hope that helps! Jim
