Rear end might be out

My 88 gmc manual transmission will not engage into 1st
or 2nd or reverse. My truck wont move when its in 1st gear
.when i try to start it. Then will sometimes start when its
in 1st gear with out clutch . stick shift acts like its going
to shift when started but won't actuall engage .

373 rear end gear ratio might be out . 4x4 wasnt engagin also rear joints were knocking and making noise . went out when it was snowing. Still starts but won't engage
