How good is the manual transmission on the newest 2014 Forester (with CVT)?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am thinking of buying a new 2014 Forester and I have always driven manual
transmission. How does the manual transmission work with the CVT? Is it any good?

if you like manuals don't buy a CVT, I've been inside of several CVT transmissions and they do not impress at all, there's no gears, it never actually shifts, it's a belt arround 2 pullys that can continuosley varry their sizes and that's it.

CVT is a type of transmission, much more like the conventional automatic transmission, and completely separate from a manual transmission. I agree with Nick and far prefer manual transmissions over both CVT and conventional automatic ones.

Test drive the CVT. If you have driven manuals, you probably won't like the CVT. The CVT is also whiny. The CVT model comes with more sound insulation. It reportedly delivers better, the best, MPG, of the transmissions offered. I would not used the simulated manual mode... I mean, why?
