2014 Subaru Forester emissions control system error?

Asked by Aug 05, 2016 at 06:10 PM about the 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

About four months ago I purchased a 2014
Subaru Forester 2.5i premium from a local
used car lot. First and foremost, I went
there with no intention of buying a car that
day but as used car salesmen go, he
smoothed talked me into it with no
questions. Irrelevant as it is to this, I went
through a three day hassle to get the car of
my dreams. I've always wanted to be a
Subaru owner. About 3 months after
buying it my right headlight went out and
after changing the bulb I was informed by
a less than friendly autozone employee
that I had an electrical problem. It was very
low on my list of things to worry about. A
headlight? Okay I'll just make sure not to
drive at night unless I absolutely have to. In
the mean time I inlisted the help of my
uncle who was a Midas mechanic for
years. Until he could come up from out of
town, I didn't let it bother me too much.
Well today, four months after purchasing
my dream car, my CEL came on saying the
emissions control system needed checked
and my cruise control icon was blinking.
I've had no problems like this before. I
haven't touched my gas cap in a week. My
fuel is low right now but other than running
my a/c a lot more than normal due to crazy
hot temperatures, my driving hasn't been
any different. I know I should have taken it
to a mechanic by now but I'm a 23 year old
female with no male figure to help me out.
I'm on my own and as you can see I tend
to make terrible mistakes when on my
own. Any help or guidance would be
greatly appreciated.  Also my uncle is
coming tomorrow I'm just not sure how
much he knows about subarus.
