when moving forward from a stop position rear end making rough noise almost like gears sliping. it's a 4x4 GMC SIERRA
Notice that when truck goes into gear say from a
dead stop. The rear end starts vibrating rough like
it's slipping out of gear. Afterwards the rest of the
gears are fine. It's a4x4 and only thing I did recently
was engage 4x4 when moving in drive position.
Also I changed out the air filter. Any ideas?
drive axle? have you tried crawling under and turning drive line back and forth see if its lose?
usually goes out on the yoke where they connect
If the rear end is a posi traction, they make them with a clutch pack design. There may be something wrong going on there.
Most likely you have a limited slip rear end, I would pull the inspection cover off and look for any metal particulates in the gear oil then inspect the ring and pinion gears for any abnormal gear wear, if it all looks good reassemble it and then refill with the special limited slip lube and drive it around a little so the lube can get back into the limited slip clutches. Let stand overnight and then see if the problem is any better. Or take it to a shop you trust and have them do the job.
