Question type: Car Customization

I have a 88 Chevy caprice, with a 4.3 motor, I want
to swap it out with a 5.7 motor. What all will I need
for this particular swap? Haven’t started yet but I
wanna start buying things I need.

The 5.7 Liter V-8 engine was not available in the 1988 Chevrolet Caprice which had the standard 4.3 Liter V-6 engine. The 5.7 was available in the Caprice Classic LS in 1994. This is a heavier and bigger engine, it will require a number of changes in different areas, including electronics to put it in the 1988. You are looking at lots of work and money. Not to discourage you but... think it over. Why not look for a newer Caprice with the 5.7 Liter?

Thanks for your speedy response...but I’ve had the car since I was 16, I drive it in and off, the 4.3 that’s in is fine, but I want a little more power, ive had different people tell me it’s possible, I’ve seen it. I don’t like the newer caprices that much, but I wanna know what all I would need.

Ja Lan, I understand what you are saying, it is a matter of sentimental value. Yes, it can be done, it will just take time, effort and some money. If you go ahead with the project, I wish you luck.

I had a 1987 caprice wagon with the 307v8 and 2004r tranny.Police cars had the 350v8 and the 700r4 tranny, these B body Chevys all have room for a v8 and an easy swap. Ck junk yards and get the whole package including the computer

If you can find a good running 350 for that year and tranny you'll need to change the suspension, motor and transmission mounts, really not a lot of computer brains to that year. It will be expensive but good luck
