86 chevy caprice classic
was driving car it acted like it was running out of gas. when I pulled over oil was pouring out of the oil filter housing could it be the seal at the housing unit or is it the bottom main seal????
Did you just have an oil change done? If you did, the old gasket might have stuck on the block and now you have 2 gaskets there not creating a seal. If this is a new leak, check the gasket on the filter first by removing the filter, maybe it just worked itself loose. Spin it to tighten it up.
Probably a double gasket like Tom said.
That might be old enough to have a mechanical fuel pump in that vicinity, which I doubt broke and could have acted as stated.
To be on the safe side, I'd replace the filter, and while ding ikt, give a complete examination of the area making sure there is no gaskets hanging around, and no cracks where it mounts. If you had the oil just changed and it was at a garage or oil changing station, go back to them after making sure the filter is turned on tight and there are no oil leaks. I agree with the above entries, it may be a double oil ring, lose filter or damaged filter.
