Where should I buy a remanufactured engine for my 1988 VSW Cabriolet ?

Asked by Sep 02, 2015 at 10:11 PM about the 1988 Volkswagen Cabriolet Boutique

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

My good condition and beloved 1988 VW Cambriolet had a terminal engine knocking sound which looks like either a piston or a con rod has failed.  The dealer wants to rebuild the engine in the chassis for an absurd amount of money. Can you recommend some companies who provide remanufactured engines for vintage VWs ?  Thank you.

Try ATK. That's who we deal with at NAPA. Also, check rockauto.com. Look under engine then long block if they offer it for your VW. HTH. -Jim
