Car just stalled while driving

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a ford focus SE 2003.  This a.m. driving to work, it just stopped running. I could
cruise it over to the side of the road but all the dash lights flashed and it stopped. I started
it up and there was the smell of smoke and a squealing sounds.  I got it running but it was
squealing so I pulled over and sat for a few minutes.  I then got it started and it was fine.
What could this possibly be? I just had the EGR tube changed as I had a similar problem
before that.  could the two be related?  I'm about sick of having this car repaired.

Squealing to me says Belt tensioner, pulley or belt itself has seized causing friction, turning the car off. Have it look at before you drive any distance. I know your frustrated but cars do need maintenance, especially older ones. Have it looked at periodically by your mechanic so you can find and repair parts before they fail, leaving you stranded.
