I have a 1989 VOLVO 740 GLE auto trans 4 CYL. St. Wgn with a dual 16 valve overhead cam. Is there a fudge factor for exceeding manf. recommended replacement for the two timing belts?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There are 268,000 miles on the car. I'm about 350 miles past the mileage
target since they were last replaced. It's in good condition as I have been
changed the oil etc.regularly.
My thinking is that manufacturers present those figures lower allowing for a
safety factor.  How many more miles do you think I can go before I have to
worry.  I spent a bundle the last time it was done.
