Purchased a 2013 Nissan Sentra SL from dealer. Just over the three year warranty and the car starts having a problem with locking in park. Car will not shift to any other gear. Learned to use shift override when took to a local dealer. Now told if I want fixed must replace shift assembly at my cost of $700. Cost me $120 to get the problem diagnosed (sp). Is there another possible cause? Is this covered until a recall?
Your dealer would have a list of recalls, or call Nissan customer service. If there was a recall, in most cases they would have taken care of all recalls when they sold you the car. Buying a used car is a gamble. If the dealer was nice, they could repair the assembly for a reduced price. Maybe waive the diagnostic fee? You can ask, but they can also say No. But they can't back charge Nissan for warranty work. You can try and call a few local shops in your area for some quotes.
