I HAVE A 1978 CHEVY PICK UP WITH A 350 AND 4 BARREL CARB. WILL START EVERYTIME BUT WON.T STAY RUNNING UNLESS I CONTROL THE GAS PEDAL AND LET OFF AND IT STALLS

Sounds like either the idle speed screw is set too low or it's time for a carburetor rebuild. Do NOT buy a remanufactured carburetor and turn in your old one for the core charge!! Have the original carburetor rebuilt and reinstall it. HTH. -Jim
