'94 Dodge Intrepid (3.3) Timing Belt Broke: Engine Destroyed? $600 only way to find out???

Asked by Jan 06, 2009 at 05:55 AM about the 1994 Dodge Intrepid 4 Dr ES Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Engine stopped and towed to mechanic.  He says only way to find out if engine destroyed is to pay $600, THEN we'll see the real cost.  I only paid $500 for the car and it always felt like it was barely running anyway.

Should I pay $600 or junk it?

I've already paid $1.000 in registrations, fees, repairs, and gas for only 10 months of driving this beast.

Hate to say it but it will prob need a new top end costly to fix i would junk it myself or find a good used motor and have it swapped

unless your ready to put a new engine in it i wouldnt bother... just to get at this engine to check the belts and take the top end apart is gonna run you the 600 bucks id junk it or sell it for parts.... probabally junk it the engine will be a write off... replacement engines will run about 2 grand plus about another 800 just to install it minimum... but that engine is done...

they wouldnt cost 2 grand plus if you got a junkyard one. prob 800 plus lol but either way id just junk the whole car no bother with piecing it out or anything.
